Sony announces ECM-AX10, a USB-C spatial audio microphone for smartphones, at $249.99

Sony Electronics announced the ECM-AX10 on Oct. 8, 2026. Sony describes it as the world's first Eclipsa Audio-certified microphone for smartphones, with the certification dated Sept. 15, 2026. It is aimed at vloggers, mobile filmmakers and content creators.

The microphone connects directly to a compatible smartphone over USB-C and weighs approximately 24g. A newly developed spherical module holds four omnidirectional capsules that record sound from multiple directions. Sony lists iOS 18 or later, or Android 14 or later, and a USB-C port as requirements.

There are three recording modes. Ambisonics recording works with Sony's Spatial Audio Video Tool app to publish in Eclipsa Audio on YouTube. Binaural recording produces a headphone-oriented three-dimensional sound for cases where Eclipsa Audio is not supported. Stereo recording works with general recording and video apps as well as Sony's own.

With the Spatial Audio Video Tool app, which Sony says runs on iOS and Android, users can shoot video, review clips, make simple edits and export with spatial audio on the phone. Sony says Sony PCL, a Sony Group company, supported the sound tuning.

The ECM-AX10 is available for pre-sale now at an MSRP of $249.99 USD ($349.99 CAN) from Sony, Amazon, B&H, Best Buy, Sweetwater, Guitar Center and other authorized dealers. The announcement does not give a shipping date.
