Ikea Holmo Floor Lamp

The budget ambient pick — a minimalist paper-shade lamp casting a soft, warm, diffuse glow for mood lighting at a famously low price. Not bright or adjustable enough for task reading, but the standout value for an inexpensive, good-looking corner glow.

The IKEA Holmö is the budget pick for affordable, simple, attractive ambient light. It's a classic minimalist paper-shade floor lamp casting a soft, diffuse, warm glow ideal for ambient and mood lighting in a living room or bedroom, at a famously low price. It won't give the bright, adjustable, task-quality light of the Brightech or Dyson — it's about gentle atmosphere, not reading-grade brightness or color control — but for an inexpensive, good-looking lamp to add a soft warm glow to a corner, it's the standout value. For task light you'd look elsewhere (including IKEA's brighter ranges), but as a cheap, cheerful mood light that looks far nicer than its price, it's hard to beat.
