Budget laminate-top coffee table with hollow legs. 46x22 in. Lightweight and easy to move. Easy-clean surface. In continuous production 40+ years.
IKEA's Lack coffee table costs $50 and has been in continuous production for over 40 years. It's a laminated board surface with hollow legs โ exceptionally lightweight and completely functional. The surface is easy to clean, the legs don't scratch floors, and the dimensions (46x22 inches) match a two-seat sofa adequately. It looks like a $50 table, but not in a way that looks broken or damaged โ it just looks basic. For a rental apartment, a first home, or anywhere you need a functional surface that isn't going to stress you about scratches, Lack is the honest answer. Nothing about it is exceptional except its price and its ubiquity.
Pros
- Genuinely functional at $50 โ no other coffee table competes at this price
- Lightweight hollow construction makes it easy to move
- Easy to clean laminate surface
Cons
- Hollow leg construction limits weight capacity โ not suitable for heavy objects
- Basic laminate surface doesn't develop character over time
