Joint supplement pairing glucosamine and chondroitin with avocado/soybean unsaponifiables (ASU), boswellia and green tea extract (MSM only in the "with MSM" version). Clinical evidence for ASU in pet dogs is limited.
The standard Dasuquin soft chews pair glucosamine and chondroitin with avocado/soybean unsaponifiables (ASU), boswellia and green tea extract; MSM is only in the 'Dasuquin with MSM' version. ASU reduced cartilage lesions in a small experimental dog model, and a small manufacturer-funded force-plate study did not find a statistically significant difference, so clinical evidence in pet dogs is limited. Dasuquin is usually positioned for dogs already diagnosed with osteoarthritis, and the soft chew is easier to give than Cosequin's tablet. It costs more, so ask your vet whether the extra ingredients are worth it for your dog.
Pros
- Adds ASU, boswellia and green tea extract to glucosamine and chondroitin
- Same manufacturer as Cosequin (Nutramax)
- Soft chew format with better palatability than Cosequin tablets
Cons
- Higher price โ not cost-effective for preventive use in young dogs
- May be overkill for dogs without diagnosed joint disease
