Updated 2026-11-03
Watercolor sets differ more than they look: some are pans in a tin, some are tubes, and one is an opaque Japanese style. The five here run from an 8-color kids set to 24-color sets, so the choice depends on who is painting and where.
Quick answer
Crayola Washable Watercolors is the cheapest at $2.34 on Amazon US on November 3, 2026, and the Artecho 48-color pan set is $7.99 with 3 brushes. The Sakura Koi Pocket Field Sketch Kit is $25.95, Winsor & Newton Cotman 20 tubes is $34.33, and Kuretake Gansai Tambi 24 colors II is $34.99.
📋How we compared
We did not paint with these sets ourselves. Color, lightfastness and pigment quality depend on paper and technique, and we cannot test them. This comparison is built from the titles and features of the Amazon US listings, fetched through the Amazon Creators API on November 3, 2026, plus general knowledge of watercolor. Color counts, lightfastness, non-toxic labels and all other specifications are seller claims. Prices change often, so check the store.
💰 Lowest price: Crayola Washable Watercolors is a kids set of 8 classic-color cakes with a paintbrush. The listing says the paints wash from skin and clothing and are labeled non-toxic for ages 3 and up, and it suggests classroom and craft-room use.

Those are seller statements, not results we checked.
The Crayola listing says its paints wash from skin and clothing and are labeled non-toxic for ages 3 and up. The Artecho and Kuretake listings also mention non-toxic labeling. Read the label on the product you receive, and treat these as listing statements.
