Microsoft opens pre-orders for Surface Laptop Ultra with NVIDIA RTX Spark, from $2,599, available Oct. 16

Microsoft opened pre-orders for the Surface Laptop Ultra on Oct. 7, 2026, alongside the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box. Microsoft calls the Laptop Ultra its most powerful Surface Laptop, aimed at creators, developers and AI builders.

The laptop is designed around NVIDIA's RTX Spark chip, which combines an NVIDIA Blackwell RTX GPU with up to 6,144 cores, an NVIDIA Grace CPU with up to 20 cores and up to 128 GB of unified memory shared between the two. Memory varies by configuration. Microsoft says it can run AI models exceeding 120B parameters locally, a figure its footnote bases on theoretical performance.

The chassis is less than 18 mm thin and under 4.5 lb, with a thermal design Microsoft says delivers up to 2.5x more thermal power capacity than its current Surface Laptops. The 15-inch PixelSense Ultra touchscreen reaches a peak HDR brightness of 2,000 nits, measured over a 10 percent window; it does not support pen input. The touchpad is 30% larger than on the Surface Laptop 8th Edition, and storage is user-removable.

Charging uses Magnetic Connect, a magnetic USB-C cable that attaches to the right-side port, which keeps working for video and data. Other ports are two more USB-C ports, HDMI, USB-A, an SD card reader and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The laptop can drive up to three 4K displays with compatible hardware. Colors are Platinum and Nightfall on selected models.

Surface Laptop Ultra starts at $2,599 (MSRP) from Microsoft.com or select retailers, with availability beginning Oct. 16. The Surface RTX Spark Dev Box is $5,999 (MSRP), sold exclusively on Microsoft.com in the U.S., and begins shipping in November.
