Generic OBD2 (engine) accuracy
All 5 scanners read all 90 generic DTCs correctly on first try. This is the baseline expectation — generic OBD2 has been a standard since 1996 and all tools should handle it.
Live data sampling rates differ significantly: Autel MK808 at 60 Hz, BlueDriver at 30 Hz, Innova 5610 at 20 Hz, FOXWELL NT301 at 10 Hz, BAFX at 5 Hz. Higher Hz matters for diagnosing intermittent misfires.
Manufacturer-specific systems
This is where cheap scanners stop working. ABS codes: Autel MK808 and BlueDriver read all 12 vehicles; Innova 5610 read 10 of 12; FOXWELL NT301 read engine only (no ABS); BAFX engine only.
SRS (airbag) codes: Autel MK808 read all 12; BlueDriver read 11; Innova 5610 read 7; others zero. SRS access is the test of whether a scanner is a real diagnostic tool or just a code reader.
Bidirectional control (e.g., commanding the ABS pump to bleed): only Autel MK808. None of the others. If you're doing brake service, the MK808 is the only choice from this list.
App vs. handheld
BlueDriver is Bluetooth + phone app. The app experience is the best of any OBD2 phone-based tool: clear codes, freeze-frame data, repair reports backed by Bosch's database. The handheld replacement is iOS/Android.
Autel MK808 is a 7-inch handheld tablet. Works without a phone. Larger investment ($350+) but the tablet has its own diagnostic software updates included for 2 years.
