Best Trash Bags 2026: 5 Compared
WriterPickly Editorial
Updated 2026-11-05
Trash bags look alike on the shelf, but the size has to match your can, and the price per bag swings a lot between a bulk kitchen box, a 33-gallon outdoor roll and a compostable liner.
Quick answer
Hefty Ultra Strong 13 Gallon Kitchen Trash Bags, 80 Count has the lowest price per bag here: $11.99 on Amazon US on November 5, 2026, about $0.15 a bag. The Amazon Basics 120-count is $19.20 (about $0.16 a bag) and the Glad ForceFlex 110-count is $22.97 if you want no added scent. The Hefty Strong 33-gallon is $13.37 for outdoor bins, and the UNNI compostable liners are $19.98 for 50.
📋How we compared
We did not put these bags on a can and fill them. Strength under a heavy load needs repeated use with the same trash, which we cannot run. This comparison is built from the product titles and feature lists on the Amazon US listings, retrieved through the Amazon Creators API on November 5, 2026, and general knowledge of how trash bags are sized. Counts, thickness and every claim about strength, odor control or composting are the sellers' own statements. Prices change often, so check the retailer.
💰 Lowest price per bag: The Hefty Ultra Strong 13-gallon box holds 80 bags in white with a Lavender and Sweet Vanilla scent. The listing highlights a break-resistant drawstring, Arm and Hammer odor control and resistance to leaks, punctures and rips.

Thickness and strength claims
Thickness is given in mil. The Amazon Basics bags are listed at 0.9 mil, the Hefty Strong 33-gallon at 1.05 mil and the UNNI at 0.9 mil. The Hefty Ultra Strong and Glad ForceFlex listings do not give a mil figure and describe leak, puncture and tear resistance in the seller's words.
Glad says its ForceFlex material stretches over heavy loads, and its 3-ply drawstring is described as gripping the can. Thickness is just one factor, so treat these as claims rather than test results.

The Hefty Ultra Strong is the scented one, in Lavender and Sweet Vanilla with Arm and Hammer odor control per the listing. The Glad is fragrance free and the Amazon Basics is unscented. Based on the listed prices, the per-bag cost is about $0.15 (Hefty 13-gallon), $0.16 (Amazon Basics), $0.21 (Glad), $0.28 (Hefty 33-gallon) and $0.40 (UNNI).
The UNNI listing says to use the bags within 9 months and notes that commercial composting may not be available in every area, so check local options before choosing a compostable bag.
