Garmin announced MARQ – the third generation, a collection of six luxury tool watches: MARQ Adventurer, MARQ Athlete, MARQ Aviator, MARQ Commander, MARQ Diver and MARQ Golfer. Each has its own bezel, strap or bracelet and an exclusive, customizable set of watch faces inspired by designs such as the World Timer, Panda and Flieger. The cases are Grade-5 titanium with a sapphire lens, and the 1.4-inch borderless AMOLED screen is, according to Garmin, the largest display yet on a MARQ.
New on all third-generation models are preloaded TopoActive maps for the whole world with address search, and embedded inReach connectivity. Connected to LTE, the watch can make calls, share a live location through the new Garmin Locate feature in the Garmin Messenger app, exchange text and voice messages and get weather forecasts via satellite or LTE. An SOS message goes to the 24/7-staffed Garmin Response coordination center. Garmin's footnote says an active plan is required and LTE coverage is not available in all regions.
The watches add a built-in speaker and microphone for voice commands, an LED flashlight with microlensing optics, and the ECG app, which analyzes heart rhythm recordings for signs of atrial fibrillation. Garmin notes the ECG app is not available in all regions and is intended for adults aged 22 and over. Morning and evening reports, stress, sleep, Pulse Ox and HRV tracking are also included.
The models differ by focus. MARQ Diver, the newest member of the lineup, supports scuba, apnea and snorkel activities to 40 meters and adds boating features such as autopilot control and tack assist. MARQ Golfer has more than 43,000 preloaded courses plus Virtual Caddie and green contour data (Garmin Golf membership required). MARQ Aviator has dynamic flight mapping and a dedicated UTC hand, MARQ Commander adds tactical features including stealth mode and an Applied Ballistics solver, MARQ Athlete adds stamina metrics and running economy, and MARQ Adventurer comes with an Italian leather strap and Preloaded ClimbPro.
Garmin says the third-generation MARQ collection is available now with suggested retail prices starting at $2,500, and all models offer up to 18 days of battery life in smartwatch mode. The release does not list a price for each model or name specific retailers.
