Garmin unveils Approach S72, a golf smartwatch with on-wrist swing metrics, from $799.99

Garmin unveiled the Approach S72 on Oct. 6, 2026, calling it its new flagship golf smartwatch. It comes in two sizes, 43mm and 47mm, both with AMOLED displays, a titanium bezel, a sapphire lens and a new ComfortFit fabric band.

The main additions are on-wrist swing metrics and golf biometric data. Garmin says the watch reports hand speed, backswing length, wrist rotation and more, and that golfers can look back on a completed round to see trends in how heart rate may have affected the score. A driving range activity tracks swing metrics during practice and logs the session to the Garmin Connect app.

Three features require an active Garmin Golf membership, according to the announcement's footnotes: green reading, which uses green contour data on select courses to show the direction putts will break and the average slope percentage; putting analytics in the Garmin Golf app, covering speed bias, direction bias and make rate; and aerial imagery of each hole.

Garmin says this is its first golf smartwatch with a speaker and microphone, for phone calls and voice commands. It also has a built-in flashlight with white light at variable intensities and a red light. Off the course it tracks wrist-based heart rate, stress, Body Battery energy and sleep, and includes preloaded activity profiles. Garmin notes it is not a medical device.

For battery life, Garmin states that the larger model lasts up to 20 hours on the course and up to 16 days with GPS turned off. The announcement gives no battery figure for the 43mm model.

The Approach S72 is available now with suggested retail prices starting at $799.99. The announcement does not list a price for each size and does not name specific retailers.
