Xcaret vs Xel-Há vs Xplor 2026: Which Cancun Park to Pick
This guide compares three Grupo Xcaret parks using the official park pages, published opening hours, age and height rules, and visitor review summaries shown on those pages.
Quick answer
Pick Xcaret if you want one full day that covers nature, culture and the Xcaret México Espectacular evening show, with a shallow-water children's area for small kids. Pick Xel-Há for an all-inclusive snorkeling day near Tulum. Pick Xplor for zip-lines, amphibious vehicles and underground rivers (ages 5+). Xcaret and Xplor share one complex about 4 miles from Playa del Carmen, so they are the easiest pair to combine on a trip.
This is a desk comparison, not a visit report. We did not go to the parks ourselves. It is based on Grupo Xcaret's official park and ticket pages (schedules, inclusions, age, height and weight rules, park policies), the visitor rating summaries published on those pages, and the complaints that recur in the reviews shown there. Ticket prices change by date, currency and how far ahead you book, so check the official page before buying.
🏛️ Best all-round day: Xcaret is the broadest choice: more than 50 natural and cultural attractions, swimming in underground rivers, beaches and natural pools, an aquarium, animal exhibits and the Xcaret México Espectacular show, all in a park open from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Their All-Fun Inclusive® stays include park access and transport; at Hotel Xcaret México, kids and teens stay free. The notice does not give a percentage for the hotel offer.
Families with young children
Age rules split the three parks clearly. Xcaret and Xel-Há admit children under 4 free, give 5 to 11 year olds 25% off the adult price, and Grupo Xcaret names both as suitable for the whole family. Xcaret has a Children's World with shallow cenotes and wading pools. Xplor lists a minimum age of 5.
Xplor adds height and weight limits on top of the age rule: zip-lines need at least 3.6 ft (1.10 m) and 88 lb, the Toboganxote slide needs 4.2 ft, and helmets plus the ability to swim are mandatory.
Adventure, snorkeling or culture
Xplor is the adrenaline choice: two circuits of seven zip-lines each (2.4 miles in total, including the tallest in the Riviera Maya), amphibious vehicles through jungle and flooded caves, an 800-yard underground expedition, paddle rafts and a stalactite river swim, with a buffet lunch included.
Xel-Há is built around water: unlimited snorkeling in the inlet and a mangrove-lined river, a 5 m cliff jump, rope games, zip-lines into the water and a 40 m Scenic Lighthouse with waterslides, with food and a domestic open bar included. Xcaret mixes swimming in underground rivers with a Coral Reef Aquarium, a sea turtle center, a butterfly pavilion, an aviary and Mexican culture and folklore, which suits mixed-interest groups.
Night shows and evening plans
Xcaret stays open until 10:00 p.m., and every admission listed on the ticket page includes the Xcaret México Espectacular show. If your days are taken, the Xcaret at Night ticket runs from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and still includes the show.
For an after-dark adventure instead, Xplor Fuego operates in the evening (5:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on its listed days) with zip-lines, underground rivers and a buffet dinner.
Time needed, access and park rules
Grupo Xcaret places Xcaret about 4 miles from downtown Playa del Carmen, with Xplor in the same complex, and puts the Cancun to Playa del Carmen drive at about 45 minutes. Xel-Há is further south, near Tulum. Round-trip hotel transport from Cancun, Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya can be added at checkout for an extra cost. Check the weekly closures: Xel-Há is closed on Tuesdays and Xplor on Sundays, while Xcaret opens daily.
Rules differ by park. Xplor allows only sunscreen with titanium oxide or zinc oxide and requires closed or water shoes. The Xplor page states that a physical passport is the only ID accepted at the ticket booth, and lists a 10% fee for cancellations more than two days ahead; later cancellations are non-refundable.
