Best Camping Hammocks 2026: 5 Picks From $40 to Lie-Flat
WriterPickly Editorial
Updated 2026-10-07
A camping hammock can be a 6-ounce sling for an afternoon nap or a full shelter with a bug net, rainfly and sleeping pad. The first decision is whether you want to lounge in it or sleep in it overnight, because that sets the price from about $40 to over $300.
Quick answer
The ENO DoubleNest at $74.95 is the one to buy for most people: 400 lb capacity, 19 oz, and it works with ENO's 1-inch Helios straps ($34.95, sold separately). The Wise Owl DoubleOwl at $39.95 is the budget pick and comes with straps. For overnight sleeping, the Hennessy Expedition Zip at $169.95 has a bug net and rainfly built in, and the Haven Tent ($204 to $402 depending on kit) lets you lie flat with a pad. The Kammok Roo Single UL at $94.95 weighs 5.9 oz for ultralight packs.
We did not run our own testing on these hammocks. Judging comfort over a full night means sleeping in each one, and fit depends on your height and how you sleep. What we did instead: took weights, dimensions and load limits from each manufacturer's product page, checked prices on the makers' own stores on October 6, 2026, and read owner reviews in volume. Tree-protection guidance comes from Leave No Trace's hammock camping guidelines and the National Park Service.
🏆 Best overall: The DoubleNest is ENO's 2-person hammock at $74.95. ENO lists 70D FreeWave nylon, 7075 aluminum carabiners, a 400 lb capacity, 9 ft 6 in x 6 ft 4 in unfolded, 19 oz and a packed size of 6 x 4 x 5 inches in an attached stuff sack.

4🛏️ Best lie-flatHaven Tent Lay-Flat Hammock Tent
Lie-flat kit. Rainfly and pad are options.
The Haven Tent uses spreader bars, suspension arcs and a pad to give a flat sleeping surface, which suits side and stomach sleepers. The kit includes the hammock body, bug net, 6 ft tree straps, guy lines and stakes; prices on Haven's store run from $204 without fly or pad to $402 with a premium pad. Haven lists a 129 kg maximum but says the kit is best for people under 180 lb, and steers larger campers to the Haven XL.

- ✓Can also pitch on the ground
Cons

5🪶 Best ultralightKammok Roo Single UL Hammock
5.9 oz ultralight hammock. Straps sold separately.
The Roo Single UL is Kammok's lightest hammock at 5.9 oz and $94.95. Kammok lists 20D Levitas ripstop nylon with DWR, 100 x 50 inches, 300 lb and toggle suspension in place of carabiners. It is narrower than the double hammocks here and straps are not included, so the real carried weight is higher once you add them.

- ✓5.9 oz
- ✓300 lb capacity
- ✓Toggles replace carabiners
Cons
- ✗Straps not included
- ✗50 inches wide, 1 person
Lounging hammock or sleeping shelter
A gathered-end hammock like the ENO DoubleNest, Wise Owl DoubleOwl or Kammok Roo is a sheet of nylon with a carabiner at each end. It is light and quick to hang, and you lie on the diagonal to get flatter. For an overnight trip you add a bug net, a tarp and some insulation underneath, which you buy separately.
A hammock shelter puts those parts in one kit. The Hennessy Expedition Zip comes with attached mosquito netting, a detachable rainfly and Hennessy's webbing straps. The Haven Tent kit adds spreader bars and a pad so the sleeping surface is flat rather than curved; Haven says a properly sized pad is essential to that design.
| Hammock | Type | Weight listed | Max load | Price seen |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ENO DoubleNest | Gathered-end, 2-person | 19 oz | 400 lb | $74.95 |
| Wise Owl DoubleOwl | Gathered-end, 2-person, straps included | 26 oz | 500 lb | $39.95 |
| Hennessy Expedition Zip | Bug net and rainfly built in | 2 lb 12 oz plus 3 oz straps | 250 lb | $169.95 |
| Haven Tent | Lie-flat, bug net | 2 lb 15 oz trail weight without fly or pad | 129 kg (284 lb) | $204 to $402 |
| Kammok Roo Single UL | Ultralight, 1-person | 5.9 oz | 300 lb | $94.95 |
The weights are not like for like. The Hennessy and Haven figures include a bug net and suspension; the ENO and Kammok figures are the hammock alone, with no straps.
Tree-friendly straps and Leave No Trace
Rope and thin cord dig into bark. Leave No Trace's hammock guidelines say to use webbing straps 1 inch or wider that go around the tree, to wrap the trunk once, and never to use anything thinner than 1 inch. They also say to pick living trees at least 6 inches in diameter, camp at least 200 feet from water and hang the hammock less than 5 feet off the ground.
ENO lists the Helios straps at 1 inch wide, 8 ft 1 in long and 4.3 oz, rated to 300 lb. That rating is lower than the DoubleNest's 400 lb, so the straps, not the hammock, set the limit for two people. Hennessy's included straps are 1.5 inches wide and 42 inches long. Wise Owl includes 9 ft straps but does not list their width on the product page we read. Kammok says straps are not included with the Roo Single UL.
Some parks do not allow hammocks at all. Joshua Tree National Park's camping regulations say hammocks must be tied to rocks and climbing bolts and are not permitted in campgrounds. Leave No Trace notes that some state and local parks prohibit hanging hammocks, so check with the land manager before you go.
Bug nets, rain and cold underneath
Hennessy uses 30D no-see-um netting and a 63 x 99 inch rainfly on the Expedition Zip, entered through a side zipper. Haven lists a rainfly of 103 x 76 inches with 4,000 mm waterproofing. The gathered-end hammocks here have neither; ENO, Kammok and Wise Owl sell nets and tarps separately.
Cold comes from below. Air moving under a hammock cools your back even on mild nights, and your sleeping bag compresses under you. Haven's pad lists an R5 rating on its premium option. For a gathered-end hammock, an underquilt or a pad inside the hammock is the usual fix and adds both weight and cost.
How these picks were chosen
We chose hammocks with published specifications that cover five needs: everyday lounging, a low budget, bug protection, lie-flat sleep and ultralight packs. Kammok's Roo Double ($94.95, 17.1 oz, 500 lb) is a close alternative to the DoubleNest. The Warbonnet Blackbird is a well-known overnight hammock but is sold from Warbonnet's own site, so it is not on this list. Our sibling guide to camping tents covers ground shelters.
